Devara samaraadhane

Vara Pooje

Conducted a day before the wedding ceremony, this event is designed to welcome the bridegroom and his family. When the bridegroom arrives at the wedding venue with his family, friends, and the priest, they are greeted by sumangalis in accordance with Vedic rituals.

Gowri Pooje

As the bridegroom conducts the Samavartana Homa and prepares for the Kashi Yatre, the bride performs the “Gowri Puje” under the guidance of elder women, following tradition. Parvati, the consort of Shiva, attained him after enduring long and rigorous Tapas. In her avatar as Gauri, the bride prays to the Divine Mother, seeking devotion to her husband and the strength to face any challenges that may arise.

Kashi Yaatre

Meanwhile, the groom departs for Kashi to pursue higher studies. In response, the bride's parents urge him to remain and lead a virtuous life, accumulate wealth, and satisfy his material desires within the bounds of marriage, alongside a capable partner. The groom consents, accepts the madhuparka from the bride's parents, and returns to the wedding venue.

Dhaare

The groom waits at the flower-decked mantap, shielded from seeing the bride as she arrives, escorted by her maternal uncle amidst mangala vaadya and chanting. At the auspicious moment, the couple exchanges cumin seeds and jaggery, symbolizing their union and the joining of their families. The bride’s father offers her to the groom, who vows to uphold dharma, artha, and kama in their married life, with the Lord as their witness through the five elements.

Maangalya Dhaarane

The maangalya, a gold pendant symbolizing Mahalakshmi, is tied with a yellow thread and serves as an auspicious emblem for married women. Blessed by the elders, the groom ties it around the bride's neck at the designated auspicious muhurtham. The mantra chanted during this moment translates to: "Oh blessed one, I am tying this maangalya around your neck, for you hold the key to my happiness. May we live together in joy for a hundred years."

Saptapadi

The groom and bride hold hands and walk around the sacred fire seven times, making vows with Agni as their witness. These promises include pledges for sustenance, spiritual growth, prosperity, mutual respect, raising healthy progeny, self-control, and lifelong loyalty.
